Please Note: From time to time, The William Bingham Foundation selects a particular area of interest for grant requests from organizations with which we do not already have a relationship. In 2012 the Foundation will accept letters of inquiry from not-for-profit charitable non-governmental organizations currently addressing environmental issues related to hydraulic fracturing in the Marcellus Shale drilling areas in New York.

Applications will be accepted for programs conducting baseline water testing in areas of oil and gas drilling in the defined area; visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/energy/46381.html for a map of the area. This is a one-time grant; requests for the addition of new staff positions will not be accepted, nor will requests from start-up organizations. Applicants must demonstrate experience with water testing and must possess the organizational capacity to conduct the project. Prospective applicants may contact the Foundation for further clarification.

After reviewing all applications, the Foundation's Outreach Committee will select one application for development into a complete proposal to be considered by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees in July 2012. Applicants not selected for consideration by the Board will be notified by April 30. The maximum amount of the request is $25,000.

Important:

The deadline for organizations submitting applications for baseline water testing in the Marcellus Shale in New York is March 30, 2012. Applications must be submitted on the "Letter of Inquiry" form provided below.

Please download the "Letter of Inquiry" form and save it to your computer.

After you have completed the form, rename it to begin with the name of your organization, save it to your computer, and send the document as an email attachment to the Foundation at info@wbinghamfoundation.org. It is important that the words "2012 Application" be included in the subject line of the email message. The name of the attached document MUST begin with your organization’s name. Do not include any additional attachments.

Organizations working in other areas that have been invited by the Foundation to submit a full proposal may not download this form and are required to contact the Foundation to obtain the appropriate forms and application deadlines.
